Ceri Muller

Ceramicist, Ceri Muller is a South African artist living and working in Amsterdam. Ceri creates clay vessels and one-off pieces designed as functional items or sculptural objects. Her body of work is inspired by the human body and the fluid, organic shapes found in the natural world. Each piece is hand-made, individual, and has a unique expression. Ceri’s oeuvre is distinguished by her sheer variation: from palm-sized flower pots to life-sized ceramic faces. Each piece maintains her signature which Sight Unseen tokened “crinkly vessels and vases”.

Ceri was inspired by her partner who suggested she “make the ugliest thing [she] can think of” when in a creative slump. She states: “I did that and carried on doing it and those ugly little things morphed into these heads that I grew to really love.”
