Mthuthuzeli (Sthu) Manaka
Mthuthuzeli (Sthu) Manaka, son of the late, world-renowned artist Matsemela Manaka, is a self-taught contemporary abstract portrait painter, born and raised in Soweto, Johannesburg.
Sthu’s works consist of outwardly mismatched concepts having been put together to
create surrealistic gems. Said in his very own words: “My work is about my obsession with the spirit realm, how the spirit moves, how to love without colour nor gender. How the spirit is honest, raw, and faceless in its movement.”
Sthu is part of a collective trio called “My Loves”, along with Fhatuwani and Justice Mukheli, currently touring South Africa with their exhibits. Last year he had a show with Kalashnikov Gallery and also showcased at the FNB Art Fair.
Sthu is also currently showcasing at the Van Der Plaas Gallery in New York from the 24th of June until the 3rd of July.
