Hi, I’m Anja. My family and friends call me Nanna. I grew up in a town called Bellville. I now live in Mowbray, Cape Town. I really like it here.
I completed my Bachelor’s and Honours in Visual Communications at the University of Stellenbosch, after which I worked as a medical secretary in London, and a designer in advertising in Johannesburg. I’ve always been really fascinated by the intersection of culture and technology, so I decided to go back to school in 2011. I completed my Master’s degree and PhD in Media studies. For the latter I investigated how creative tools, particularly those on mobile, have assisted in democratising design capabilities among resource-constrained aspiring designers in Cape Town. My research was fully funded by Microsoft/Nokia Research.
I’m currently freelancing as an illustrator, designer and general creative.
